The Situation In Bangladesh

Bangladesh is experiencing severe flooding due to heavy monsoon rains and Cyclone Remal, which struck on May 26, 2024. The cyclone has affected 4.6 million people across 8 districts, leaving many in urgent need of humanitarian assistance. The situation is further compounded by civil unrest, with government services disrupted and local community groups managing security. The Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief reports that 11 out of 64 districts are underwater, severely impacting livelihoods and infrastructure.

Human Impact:

  • Deaths: 18
  • Displaced: 4.6 million moved to emergency shelters
  • Affected Districts: Sunamganj, Moulvibazar, Habiganj, Feni, Chattogram, Noakhali, Comilla, Khagrachari
  • Power and Communication: 928,000 people without power, 1,807 cell towers out of service

  • Emergency Relief: Provide basic necessities like food, water, hygiene items, temporary shelter, and medical assistance.
  • Early Recovery: Rebuild permanent housing and provide cash assistance.
  • Community Development: Restore health systems, provide psychosocial support, and rebuild infrastructure and social systems.
